I haven't made a post about the animation work I've been doing on Cerebrawl in some time. For those who have been coming to the streams will know I've started work on Jaren! I've been so busy with work these days I haven't had a chance to do any painting. I was really looking forward to giving this patreon page more love in 2019 but with a flurry of freelance requests that came in I hadn't had much time to work on Cerebrawl or do my own paintings. I think I started this drawing in the middle of January and I planned on finishing it for Lunar New Year, but my busy schedule pushed back the completion of this thing until just yesterday. Happy New Year! Rushing into 2019

I drew this as a kind of "happy new year card" from the Cerebrawl team. I was thinking of adding the caption of "Rush into 2019 with Cerebrawl" or something corny like that. Either way this painting came out much nicer than I was expecting so I wanted to share it with you guys first. I'm also adding the raw PSD files for anyone who wants to dig into how i made this one!

I wanted to also add a note that I'm very thankful that you guys have stuck with me all this time....

I had a smidgen of time between my freelance contracts a couple weeks back. I wanted to squeeze in a drawing of our sweet sweet Susan, so I took made time for myself to draw more Cerebrawl stuff.

A lot of his normal moves now reach about half-way across the screen. His long distance game is getting strong now. Op #28 rough animations

After a lot of play-testing among the team, Operator #25 is going through some major changes. Despite being initially designed as a long range fighter, he didn't really have a whole lot of attacks (especially normal attacks) that took advantage of his long sword. This made pushing opponents out to a preferred distance difficult. A need to have more normal attacks that reached further out was felt.

I'm posting my progress on the most recent Cerebrawl stage that I've been working on. One of the things that I think makes this stage interesting is how I'm handling the modeling. Instead of building the model and texturing the geometry, I'm painting out the scene and projecting the texture on geometry.

Tooth Keycaps

This one's a bit out of left field, but here's something else I'm working on. 

I've been working on making keycaps! Aaron and I have had this idea for a while and we've made quite a few prototypes at this point, but we're going to make a big push going forward to sell these guys in the near future.

Really glad I finally finished this piece. As I was working on it, I kept feeling the need to add more "stuff" to balance out the composition and the finish line just kept on being moved further and further back. Finally finished it out none the less!

Why I like to avoid using black

While I was painting the Lovely Skies painting today, I thought of a fun subject to talk about. Today we're going to talk about the color black, more broadly we'll talk about all tones of grey, but I wanted to share why you should avoid using these colors (or lack there of).

Continuing the painting process on this drawing. If you dig into the PSD files for this one there are a lot more layers than what I'm used to using. The composition is far more complicated so i felt the need to keep the layers more separate so i can control it a bit more.
