I'm curious regarding Gattaca even more. I like films that have deeper meanings than they appear to be. Demolition man is a bit corny at times, but? That's a good summary actually. I've never looked at a seashell the same way again lol

I shouldn't raise expectations too high, but I think GATTACA succeeds on so many levels. More serious than DEMOLITION MAN (although I'm starting to think DEMOLITION MAN was pretty prophetic about our modern flavorless society).

There are many stories in the comics, but the standard is that Clark Kent became a reporter for the Daily Planet alongside Lois Lane. That's how they met. Haha and yet another reason I dislike this take on Superman. And again, its a discussion. If you enjoyed the movie no one can take that from you. I may secretly question your taste in movies though. 🤣

Exactly, we all have our opinions. I grew up on Superman comics so when they trash the lore like this it bothers me. If this had been a new superhero I might have enjoyed it, but since they called it Superman I expected it to stay true to the material. Plus as I mentioned, I don't care for Snyders work as a whole. But then, that's why there's a comment section. So we can discuss and debate our opinions. 🙂

i get what ur saying.. for me the first eye-open scene was Louis finding Superman like that.. i am not too familiar with the lore.. but isn't he supposed to be into journalism before she finds him.. maybe i am wrong.. and she will never know that Clark Kent is actually Superman? more like Peter Parker and Mary Jane? maybe i am wrong.. but this is what i remember from the comics as a kid... also they might be more to it.. but yeah like u said.. they didn't really care about making DC a proper universe at all

Man of steel was - Henry should still be Superman imo. Can't wait to watch Gattaca for the first time with you both lol

different taste for different things.. i find this Superman nice in some ways. but skipped a lot of stuff... like the whole process of growing up.. i understand why.. or more lore-wise from Krypton... the main reason why some movies don't get too deep, is bcuz you don't have enough time to get attached emotionally to the characters

No worries. And of course if you like the movie, then you like the movie. One can always argue for their own tastes to what they like, but objectively bad or objectively good is different. I can like a bad movie but I should at least acknowledge it's bad. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a really bad film that I really enjoy, for example.

Well, as far as this movie goes I thought the entirety of the Superman mythos was disrupted. While I thought it was an interesting idea to focus on Supes being an Alien, too much else was trashed. Jimmy Olsen, CIA operative? Dumb. Clark's journey to becoming Superman? Dumb and BORING. Plus he killed Zod. Out of character. The end was typical Snyder bloat and spectacle without substance (see: 300). I'll even harp on the fact that they shouldn't have cast Amy Adams as Lois Lane. If he really wanted her in the movie then just cast her as Lana Lang. Don't even get me started on Perry White (I absolutely hate race swapping in movies). As far as Gunn goes, he's already destroyed the DC universe as far as I'm concerned. Just the whole thing with him firing Cavill is enough to make you fear for the future, but he also axed Gadot and Affleck...and I really wasn't a huge fan of Battfleck. Keep in mind he's launching all of these folks while keeping that maniac Ezra Miller around. Then he announced that the whole thing was being rebooted while there were still movies pending, so none of those movies mattered because the characters in them would no longer be around, at least in their current iteration. So there you have it. I could probably go into more detail but I think you get the picture. 🙂

Do you mind if ask you why this was a terrible take on Superman? I'm not a Snyder fan, and although I thought BvS and JL were really bad movies, I thought MoS was the most "decent" out of all the Snyder ones. But I'm wondering what in your opinion doesn't fit the Superman character in terms of story (I'm guessing there's sth here you didn't like)? Also asking because I really enjoy James Gunn (love Peacemaker and SS) and probably his take on Superman will be even more less "traditional".

While Henry Cavill was an awesome Superman, Man of Steel was a terrible take on Superman. I'm not a fan of Zac Snyder for the most part (Dawn of the Dead probably his only movie I like) and this interpretation of Superman is a big reason why.

Gattaca is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. Still very relevant and meaningful even today. So excited to see your reaction to it. Hope it sparked a lot of discussion at the end.

I've never watched Gattaca but it looks good, I just cheated and checked out the trailer lol. It has a Demolition man vibe, just darker, I could be wrong! I love Man of steel. Have a good week too :)

YES, Gattaca! I wanted to pick that one if I ever was lucky enough to get into the Where Is My Movie tier, haha. Many thanks to all that made it happen! And Total Recall (1990) was one of my insane favorite childhood movies, 😂. It is based on the 1966 short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. It was directed by Paul Verhoeven, the director of Robocop! That one along with Starship Troopers and Robocop make the trifecta of must watch Verhoeven classics.

I'm very excited for you to continue on with, and finish The Falcon and the Winter Soldier!! Sadly, I'm not a fan of Loki, even though I do love Loki's character within all of the Marvel movies. I just hate his show. In my opinion... I hate what is done with his character, and I hate a majority of the rest of the show's new characters too. I'm so sad. But I know that so many MCU fans love Loki. So hopefully, you will love it too. With this being said... I am very excited for you to get into Hawkeye afterwards, once you come to it!
