Aphelios has ran a total of 8 times finishing all in the top 2 apart from its 1st ride January 12th finishing 3rd.

The last 7 runs has finished in order of most recent to latest, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 2nd. All of these 2nd finishes have been inside 1 length of the winner, the most recent was September 4th in a class 3 handicap, 11 days ago finishing a Neck 2nd behind ‘Lucky man’ a consistent horse, also finishing 1 length ahead of a horse named ‘Azure Blue’ in that field who ran a solid race at Newmarket for Members July 7th when we Profited from our each way bet at odds of 16/1 (17.00) in a competitive 19 horse field, Aphelios has improved since moving from Harry & Roger Charlton’s August 8th to Michael Appleby’s yard.

1st time cheekpieces made the difference at Carlisle & conditions on paper look to suit before a 2lb rise in the weights next time out, my main concern is a 3 hour forecast of rain this morning at Yarmouth & this horse runs best on good ground, Aphelios was pulled out as non runner at Newmarket august 26th because of soft conditions, Main danger is the favourite ‘first folio’ who finished finished 6th behind Rohaan at royal ascot & has 7lb claimer on board taking off weight & has been well supported, ‘Pocket the profit’ although has Ryan moore on board, still remains 7lb higher in the weights since it’s last win which was 6 runs ago April 5th on soft ground, Cieran Fallon on board Aphelios & has ridden 4 winners in the past 14 days.

It’s eye catching that Richard Hannon has brought over this filly and has booked Billy Lee for the job. She has by far the best form on paper over in the UK when beating “Cuban mistress” comfortably rated 97 who has since landed a listed race and then Miami girl ran a very impressive race in a group 3 event last time out when staying the trip but just being outclassed. She stays this trip and is in much calmer waters today. On OR she’s a good way clear and I’m expecting a decent run in this field.

Reasoning 📝

This gelding took my eye when scampering away last time out to win very comfortably and he was only raised 5lbs for it which looks ideal from the handicapper. MAOKAI is Harry and Roger Charltons only runner today in Yarmouth and he is Trevor Whelans only ride of the day. Connections have travelled a huge 360km which is roughly 4 and a half hours driving to race this gelding which is interesting factor alone. He showed great improvement between runs last time and has a nice pedigree to suggest there’s more to come.
