This was always going to happen.

The international fencing community has become so unimaginative and stale that we cannot conceive of a world without him. It has become accepted as fact that the FIE only has two possible revenue streams of any significance:

1) The IOC

2) Usmanov

This model is clearly not sustainable or robust.

Why fencing won't be fixed.

The FIE has no competition.

Since the IOC gives the FIE sole responsibility of organising Olympic qualification, they effectively have a monopoly on international fencing. If a fencer wants to go to the Olympics, they have to compete in FIE events. If a fencer is unhappy with fencing they have no alternative organisation to turn to.

Olympic Qualification Update

Olympic qualification will soon be wrapping up, with the last world cup for Women’s Sabre in Belgium this week and for the Men next week in Hungary.
